MISMAP”

A refusal to impose limits. A mapping of the unmappable.

Victor Nicolai, Norwegian multidisciplinary artist and founder of Pteron, unveils his latest exhibition, MISMAP—a conceptual exploration of form, society, and the subtle architecture of everyday life. In this work, he fuses his personal artistic vision with that of his label and design studio, Pteron. Working fluidly across art, fashion, furniture, and spatial installations, Nicolai continues to challenge how we live, dress, and move through designed habitats.

Based in Oslo, Nicolai’s work emerges from fragmented glimpses of the mundane. Less a documentarian than a director, his images are layered, manipulated, and composed with a painterly instinct—transforming perception itself into a medium, at times spiritual, and pushing far beyond the image. Nicolai’s photographs are not mere representations—they are visual transformations. The exhibition blends surreal and dark tones, manipulated angles, and a distinctive chromatic language.

MISMAP—drawn from the verb "to map incorrectly"—invites viewers into a world where disorientation becomes a method. Garments are not styled to match, objects resist coherence, and rooms defy definition. The exhibition weaves together photography, lifestyle objects, clothing, furniture, sound, and scent into an intentionally unsettled yet interconnected whole—capturing the essence of what Pteron is all about.

“The MISMAP collection gestures toward states of disorientation—unfixed, imperfect, and in motion.” —Victor Nicolai

In this world, function bends to feeling. A t-shirt becomes a memory, a bench becomes a question. These works do not follow trends or conventions, but speak a deeper, intuitive language—where the mismatched becomes meaningful, and the inexact becomes a kind of truth. MISMAP is less a statement than a state: an unfolding process, a refusal to settle, and a welcome into the artist’s ongoing transformation.
